Windows 10–What I’m Looking Forward To

Some of you have been keeping up with the development and upcoming release of Windows 10, and there are plenty of articles that expand on everything I’m going to mention below. But, just to keep things short, here’s what I’m looking forward to in Windows 10–

  • One flavor for all devices! A new feature called Continuum displays a device-specific UI that adapts itself to the device that’s running Windows 10, including your PC, tablet, phone, and even your Xbox game console.
  • Universal apps! The new standard in app  development is to ensure all new Windows applications scale and run on all devices. This will be  a boon to developers who must develop apps across devices.
  • The return of virtual desktops and the demise of full screen apps! Yay. Nothing more to add here except that modern apps will now open as sizable, snap-able, movable windows, more or less “like in the old days.”
  • The return of the windows desktop with a Start menu that combines program choices with Windows Live Tiles!

There’s a lot of talk that this upgrade is going to be free. I’m also hearing that the upgrade will be free for a year only. Whatever. We’ll find out soon enough.

And yes, although it sounds like I’m going to make the jump to Windows 10 ASAP, there is still one big question on my mind.

What happened to Windows 9?
